Rooted in wonder. Grown through transformation.
Publishing at the edges of the seen and unseen.
Where Moss Grows

About Curious Moss
Rooted in a hybrid model that centers author autonomy and collaboration, Curious Moss Publishing is not just a publishing house—it’s a soil bed for new ways of being, seeing, and sharing stories. We publish at the edge of awakening and transformation, amplifying books that don’t fit neatly into categories but belong deeply in this moment of cultural and spiritual evolution. We believe:
-
Stories and ideas are powerful tools of transformation.
-
Publishing should be ethical, empowering, and transparent.
-
Science, radical imagination and spiritual inquiry can coexist in the same text.
-
Moss thrives in the cracks—so do we.
Our intention is to abide by and operate within the Independent Publishers Association's criteria for hybrid publishers. When we begin accepting submissions in 2026 it is our aim for these to be fully embodied.
The Story of "Curious Moss"
Curious Moss Publishing was born from a lifelong devotion to words, wonder, and transformation. As founder and publisher Tara Mahady shares:
"As a child, I found sanctuary in two places: the forest and books. Moss became my metaphor and my medicine—resilient, intricate, easy to miss and quietly radical. Curious Moss was a name that first emerged in 2001 as a blog, then a Tumblr, and now, fully grown, as a publishing house."
Tara is a writer, seeker, and Sri Vidyā practitioner, teacher and guide. She moves between the worlds of the liminal, literature, and creative strategy. Curious Moss Publishing is her way of offering back to the world what saved and shaped her.
